John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle, Australia

The Unit John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, Australia, is a Level 1 Trauma Centre. It is the principal referral center, teaching hospital and a community hospital for Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and beyond. It is the only trauma center in New South Wales outside Sydney and has the busiest emergency department in the state. It serves a population of 840,000 with an average of 400 major trauma admissions/year (ISS>15). A well established helicopter retrieval service is just off campus.

Clinical Responsibilities The chief role of the Trauma Fellow is to facilitate the day-to-day management of the seriously ill trauma patient from resuscitation to rehabilitation. Attends Trauma Team activations during working hours, ensuring that the patient progresses to definitive care in an efficient timely fashion, and gets actively involved in both resuscitative and surgical management.

Performs daily rounds of all the new trauma patients and all trauma patients in ICU and HDU with the Trauma Coordinator, reviewing clinical progresses, and diagnostic imaging and discussing the overall management plan at a consultant level. Communicates with specialty consultants, Trauma Director and Deputy Director. Participates in the after hours on call emergency surgical roster.

Teaching Responsibilities Implements regular orientation programs for interns, residents and registrars (both at the John Hunter Hospital and the Area) in basic trauma management, trauma team roles and current hospital trauma protocols. Works with the Trauma Director, Trauma Deputy Director, and Trauma Coordinator to analyse data and identify trends that need evaluation.

Research Responsibilities Participates in clinical research in trauma related areas, develops a good working knowledge of trauma scoring systems and mentored and supervised by the Trauma Director and Deputy Director, presents on national and international trauma conferences and publishes in peer-reviewed journals.

Applicant Requirements MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. FRACS Fellowship Royal Australian College of Surgeons or equivalent overseas qualification enabling recognition as a Trauma/Orthopaedics Surgeon (or working towards) or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award or Health Insurance Act (1973). Post Fellowship experience in General Surgery, Orthopaedics or Traumatology. Demonstrated effective teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary clinical care team. Evidence of continued professional development and research with a commitment to self-education and teaching undergraduate and post graduates with experience in trauma teaching. ATLS/EMST trained, preferable instructor status.

The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, Burns and Acute Care Surgery (http://trauma.ucsd.edu/) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. The department is seeking an academic general surgeon with special interests and expertise in Trauma/Burn, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery. This is a full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor level (Clinical Series).

Candidate must have an MD and possess documented teaching and research experience in an area relevant to Trauma/Burn, Critical Care/Acute Care Surgery. This is an academic appointment which requires excellence in clinical activities, research and teaching.

Large private practice General and Vascular Surgical group in south Richmond, VA is seeking a board certified critical care surgeon to be our Level II trauma program director and lead our Trauma-Acute Care Service (TACS) at the Chippenham campus of CJW Medical Center. This opportunity is with a private practice group (currently 22 members) with a history of over 100 years serving our community in south Richmond. Our TACS program has been operational since October of 2014 and has passed our State one year site review in exemplary fashion. ACS accreditation is hopeful by the end of this year (currently optional for state of Virginia).

The Chippenham campus has approximately 450 active patient beds and an extremely busy ED with up to 95,000 visits per year, serving as a highly respected tertiary referral center for central and southern Virginia. Research Fellowship

Methodist Dallas Medical Center

Job Description: The Research Fellowship allows candidates to work intimately with our surgeons and research scientists at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. The goal of this program is to conduct Trauma and Acute Care research in collaboration with our research team.
Fellows are expected to be an integral part of the General Surgery Program as well as the Trauma Research Group. Research fellows will publish manuscripts under the guidance of our experienced surgical faculty. As the only Level I Trauma Center serving South Dallas, our unique patient population forms the basis for numerous and diverse investigations. The Fellow will participate in multiple clinical research projects related to retrospective, prospective, and randomized controlled studies. Additionally, Fellows will be given an opportunity to publish and present their work at national and international meetings. The Division targets several large meetings each year, including the AAST, EAST, ASA, ASC, WTA, SCCM, and the ACS. The Research Fellow will attend all educational programs of the Division and participate in an observational capacity in clinical activities. Direct patient contact is not allowed under this program. At the end of the fellowship, the Fellow is expected to have a rich knowledge in trauma, emergency surgery, and surgical critical care research.

The Department of Surgery at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University, Charleston Division, is recruiting a trauma surgeon. We are seeking a surgeon with superior clinical, technical and interpersonal skills to join our dynamic trauma team in a busy Level 1 Trauma Center with a volume of over 3,200 cases annually. The successful candidates will also have the opportunity to work with and assist in the education of residents and medical students, so their contribution to teaching is expected and needed. Active involvement in research and scholarly activity with documented publication/presentation is important. The initial appointment to West Virginia University/Charleston division will be based on the candidate’s background and credentials.
