The Division of Trauma at Cooper University Hospital, a Tertiary Teaching Hospital of UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and an ACS Verified, NJ designated Level I trauma center, is recruiting an experienced Trauma/Critical Care surgeon as Section Head for Surgical Critical Care. Cooper maintains a 32 bed Medical/Surgical ICU and a 10 bed Trauma ICU (expansion to 16 beds currently under construction). We maintain ACGME accredited Surgical Critical Care fellowship, and Surgery residency, and have a medical student class of 48/year. The Section head will serve as an Attending Trauma/Critical Care surgeon, and Medical Director of the Trauma ICU, take call in the trauma rotation and provide leadership for Surgical Critical Care at our institution. Other members of the Department of Surgery with credentials in Surgical Critical Care will also participate in clinical critical care coverage. Level I trauma center, is recruiting an Attending Trauma/Critical Care surgeon, at the assistant professor level, to join our faculty. The trauma center admits more than 2600 patients to the trauma service annually, and the Trauma team is responsible for the care of patients in a dedicated resuscitation area, Trauma ICU, Trauma step down unit, and trauma floor, as well as consultative services for the Emergency Department. A new expanded 5 bay resuscitation area and 16 bed Trauma ICU are under construction. Trauma Fellow (Clinical)

The Trauma Department at St George Hospital is seeking expressions of interest in the position of Clinical Trauma Fellow. The St George Hospital is the Level 1 Trauma Centre for South East Sydney Illawarra Health, encompassing the CBD, many beautiful beaches and national parks. The Trauma Department is one of the busiest in Sydney, admitting 800+ major trauma patients annually, of which over 240 have an ISS>15. The Trauma Department, in the Division of Critical Care and Surgery, has a team comprising a Surgical Trauma Director, Clinical Trauma Fellow, Trauma Nurse Coordinator, Area trauma coordinator, surgical registrar and resident, and three trauma case managers. The team is supported by a trauma database manager and a full-time administrative assistant.
The Clinical Trauma Fellow position is a twelve month full-time appointment, and involves weekend and out of hours duties. Responsibility are outlines below.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
1. The Clinical Trauma Fellow (“The Fellow”) will conduct a daily review of all inpatients under the care of the Trauma Unit and ensure that a current management plan is clearly documented. In addition, as required, the Fellow will provide a consultative service to other surgical/medical teams caring for patients with trauma. These consultations will then be discussed with the Director of Trauma.
2. Attend all trauma calls between the hours of 0800-1700hrs Monday to Friday acting as the Surgical Team Leader in conjunction with Emergency Department staff, and prioritise and coordinate the acute resuscitation and treatment of the multiply injured patient based on EMST/ATLS principles. This will include the ordering of timely and appropriate investigations/interventions.
3. Participate in emergency operative procedures involving thoracic and abdominal trauma under the direction and supervision of the Consultant Trauma Surgeon.
4. Ensure that a Tertiary Survey is conducted on all trauma patients admitted to ICU/HDU and wards in the previous 24hrs.
5. Co-ordinate with other specialties and allied heath in planning the management of trauma patients in ICU, HDU and wards.
6. Be involved in the organisation of appropriate rehabilitation, and attend weekly multi-disciplinary meetings.
7. Assist in the discharge planning and follow-up management of selected patients with complex injuries in an outpatient Trauma clinic.
TEACHING
1.Responsible for coordinating the medical educational activities of the trauma department. These include:
i.daily teaching of surgical registrars/residents and medical students on ward rounds and at trauma calls;
ii. tutorials for medical, nursing and allied health personnel who are engaged in the care of trauma patients including Trauma Grand Rounds;
iii. participation in community health education and injury prevention seminars.
RESEARCH
The St George Hospital Trauma Department has a well-established database and excellent opportunities exist for involvement in clinical research with experienced staff. The fellow is encouraged to instigate and participate in research activity.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
The Trauma department has a well established audit system involving regular Morbidity and Mortality meetings which the Fellow will co-ordinate and lead. In addition the Fellow will be expected to participate in Trauma Management Committee which will provide experience in the administration and co-ordination of a busy Trauma service. Participation in the revision and/or development of trauma management protocols is mandatory.
REQUIREMENTS
Essential
• Eligible for registration by the New South Wales Medical Board
• Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General, Orthopaedic or Trauma Surgery (or equivalent). Candidates expecting to complete requirements in any of the above prior to January 2010 are encouraged to apply.
• Overseas candidates must demonstrate documented proficiency in English.
• Familiarity with the operative and nonoperative management of life and limb-threatening injuries.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
• Demonstrated interest in the management of the multiply injured patient.
• Interest in military or rural surgery or humanitarian aid.
• EMST/ATLS currency preferably at Instructor level.
• Demonstrated interest in education and evidence of previous participation as an educator.
• Previous research experience and publication.
Remuneration
Remuneration is dependent on level experience and will be in accordance with the current NSW State Award.

Trauma Program Manager, Pediatrics
