435 bed hospital. Trauma service attends 2,700 adminssions per year (80% blunt, 20% penetrating).
Fellowship Program
Clinical Responsibilities
Trauma fellow will be integrated into clinical rotations at St. Paul-Ramsey Medical Center. Rotations include trauma, orthopedics, plastic surgery, burns and emergency medical services. Eight months will be on the trauma service and one month on each of the others.Fellow will be involved in the operative and non-operative management of all patients admitted to the trauma service. Rotations on the other services will emphasis clinical care. The EMS rotation will introduce the trauma fellow to the EMS organisation within the Ramsey center which includes air and ground transport systems. The orthopedic rotation will include operative experience with the orthopedic trauma surgeons. During the plastics rotation the fellow will be exposed to hand and maxillofacial trauma. Participation in the operative care of patients admitted to these specialty services is expected.
Research Opportunities
A research trauma topic with a grand rounds presentation is expected during the twelve months. This presentation will take place in the last quarter of the fellowship program. Any research leading to national presentations will be funded. Research opportunities exist with individual faculty members.
