Description

Henry Ford Hospital is a 937- bed hospital, functioning as a Level I TraumaCenter. The orthopaedic trauma service emphasizes the team approach, and consists of four full-time fellowship-trained orthopaedic traumatologists, three chief residents and three junior residents, supported by a similarly organized general surgery trauma team.

Fellowship Program

Clinical Responsibilities

The fellow assumes the functional level of a junior attending physician and is responsible for directing all aspects of patient care in conjunction with the four senior staff orthopaedic traumatologists. Instruction at the institution offers the orthopaedic trauma fellow further training concerning all aspects of orthopaedic management of patients that have sustained extremity, pelvis, acetabulum, and multisystem trauma. Research Opportunities

The fellow participates in clinical and/or basic science research resulting in at least one paper suitable for publication. A large heterogeneous population of patients is available for clinical studies. There are several ongoing prospective clinical projects that the fellow may become involved in under the supervision of one of the four full-time faculty members. Basicscience projects are performed under the direction of the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Eric Radin, M.D. Time is available for research activities. A fully equipped and staffed basic science laboratory is available and a state of the art gait analysis laboratory has just been completed. Research funding for trauma fellow comes from several different sources including departmental and institutional grants.

Applicant Requirements

Must be board certified or board eligible and possess a valid Michigan medical license. Foreign applicants must have completed the equivalent of medical license. Foreign applicants must have completed the equivalent of the appropriate orthopaedic surgery certification exam.
