The Unit

Description

University of Florida Health Science Center is located in the center of Jacksonville, Florida. Jacksonville is the largest city in Northeast Florida with a central population of 1,000,000. The Trauma center through the services of Trauma One covers 250 mile radius of southern Georgia, and Northern Florida. All adult and pediatric Level one trauma is cared for at this institution. The Health Center is the training hospital for all post graduate disciplines with additional fellowships in Radiology, Plastic Surgery, and General Trauma Surgery. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is responsible for the training of two residents per year with services to the Mayo Clinic, and Nemours Children’s Hospital. Fellowship trained staff in Hand, Spine, Sports Medicine, Joint Reconstruction, and Trauma comprise the health Center based faculty. Ninety percent of the orthopaedic procedures performed are Trauma related.

Fellowship Program

Clinical Responsibilities

The Trauma fellowship is designed for those individuals seeking advanced experience in the management of complex fractures and the multiply experience in the management of complex fractures and the multiply brought into the Trauma Center. The trauma fellow will take an active role in the management of these patients through the multi-discipline Trauma Service. Complex intra-articular fractures, pelvic and acetabular fracture constitute the majority of the surgical case load for each fellow.

Research Opportunities

Internal funding for basic science research has been obtained for one project or pilot study per year. Laboratory facilities are located at the project or pilot study per year. Laboratory facilities are located at the and large animal research. One basic science and one clinical project is expected for each academic year.

Teaching Responsibilities

Quarterly didactic sessions for paramedics and health care professionals will be the responsibility of the Trauma service in addition to the weekly teaching conferences.

$32,500

Applicant Requirements

The applicant must have a valid license to practice in the State of Florida prior to commencing the clinical year. Must have completed an accredited Orthopaedic residency with written evaluation from the department Chairman or Residency director regarding qualifications in the field of trauma.
