The Unit

Description

We are a Level I Trauma Center and the regional trauma center for the central valley of California. There is extensive general experience in the entire field of acute trauma with special interest in severe multiple trauma and management of complex fractures of the acetabulum and pelvis. Experience with reconstruction of post-traumatic deformities is available with treatment of nonunion, malunion, and leg length discrepancy utilizing closed intramedullary nailing and Ilizarov techniques.

Fellowship Program

Clinical Responsibilities

The program offers a clinical experience as chief of one of the two university orthopaedic trauma services for six months, and six months of clinical and laboratory research experience combined with specialized training in post-traumatic reconstruction. This fellowship provides extensive general experience in acute trauma, with special focus on severe multiple trauma, management of complex fractures of the acetabulum and pelvis, as well as reconstruction of post-traumatic deformities and non-union.

Research Opportunities

Six months of dedicated research time is provided, during which time clinical experience continues. Extensive resources are available for both clinical and laboratory research, with a current emphasis on biomechanics.

Applicant Requirements

Applicants must have completed an ACGME accredited residency in orthopaedic surgery and hold a California medical license.
