The Unit

Description

The Trauma Fellow will be expected to be available for all Trauma cases that occur in the Trauma Room during the day and will be expected to take call on a rotating basis as senior advisory staff. The fellow will be expected to participate in patient care at a senior level. This will include both ward and operating responsibilities and involves Outpatient Clinic duties at a level one Trauma Centre. Three to four days per week will be dedicated to the Trauma Clinic and the OR and one to two days per week to research.

Clinical Responsibilities

640 bed unit with over 900 trauma admissions per year, of which 95% are blunt.

Research Opportunities

Two major projects, suitable for publication, must be completed by the end of the term. Full lab availability as far as any research is concerned with qualified staff, including Ph.D. research staff, Masters, students and Ph.D. students. Medical students are also available to help with research projects.

Teaching Responsibilities

The Fellow will be expected to become an ATLS Instructor.

Salary

$48,000 Canadian

Applicant Requirements

Must be qualified for a fellowship license in the Province of Nova Scotia which would include the equivalent of a Royal College Fellowship certified exam, or American Board certification or eligibility.
