Description
The Division of Orthopaedic Trauma at the Vancouver Hospital is very active in clinical trauma. 750 bed hospital with 1,500 orthopaedic trauma procedures per year.
Fellowship Program
Clinical Responsibilities
Instruction at the Institution will offer the orthopaedic trauma fellow an opportunity to increase knowledge in the field of Adult Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery. Major recent blunt trauma, the assessment and management of multiple injured patients and treatment of injuries to the pelvis and extremities. The fellow will be expected to participate in patient care at a senior level. This will include both ward and operating responsibilities as well as out-patient clinic duties at a Level I Trauma Centre.
Research Opportunities
A trauma database has been in place since 1987 with detailed information on patient demographics, treatment and early complications. This allows for rapid access to patient information for clinical review. Two major projects suitable for publication must be completed prior to the end of the term.
Teaching Responsibilities
The fellow is also responsible for medical student and resident teaching. This consists of fracture rounds and some lecture sessions. The fellow is also expected to participate in orthopaedic grand rounds once every two months.
Salary
$40,000 Canadian
Applicant Requirements
Successfully completed an accredited Orthopaedic Resident Training Program Fulfill the requirements of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC for registration (Educational or Temporary).
