The Unit

Description

LAC-USC is the primary traching hospital of the University of Southern California School of Medicine. The hospital is a 1200 bed acute care facility which is a Level 1 trauma center with 7000 trauma admissions each year. The Surgical Critical Care Unit is a modern, fully computerised18 bed facility. Approximately 1000 patients are admitted to The Unit each year, the majority being trauma.

Fellowship Program

Clinical Responsibilities

The fellowship provides advanced clinical training in surgical critical care. The resident will be involved in the use of several advanced therapies such as high frequency ventilation, independent lung ventilation, continuous haemofiltration, immunomodulation, inhaled nitric oxide and others.

Research Opportunities

Active participation in clinical research is expected

Teaching Responsibilities

Active participation in housestaff teaching is expected
