Description
The University of South Florida is offering a one-year ACGME accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship with an optional second year of training in trauma/trauma research. Training is completed at Tampa General Hospital’s Level I Trauma Center caring for 2,700 trauma patients/year. Training in neurosurgical, burn, transplant, general surgical, pediatric and cardiovascular critical care is provided.
Research Activities
Clinical research on trauma and general surgery as well as research on trauma systems.

Clinical Responsibilities
The goal of the surgical critical care residency is to provide the trainee with advanced instruction in the management of critically ill patients. The resident will be trained in all aspects of critical care including research, teaching, administration, legal and ethical aspects of critical care, as well as the clinical practice of critical care. Residents will spend 8-9 months on the surgical critical care service. This service is the primary service for all trauma patients and all patients with acute general surgery emergencies. Electives are available for medical, anesthesia and pediatric critical care as well as with cardiology, nephrology and research among others. It is also expected that on completion of the program, that the resident will obtain added qualifications in surgical critical care by taking the examination offered by the American Board of Surgery except as noted above.
Applicant Requirements
Surgery residents who have completed at least three years of training and are currently enrolled in a general surgery residency program.
