The Unit
Description
The Vancouver General Hospital is a Level 1 trauma center and the only
accredited trauma center in British Columbia. VGH is a teaching Hospital
affiliated with The University of British Columbia. There is an average
of 600 major trauma admissions a year. There is a well established
helicopter service.
Fellowship Program
Clinical Responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities:
1) Be integrated in all aspects of trauma care.
2) Be the Trauma team leader.
3) Be involve in ICU care of the patients.
4) Weekly teaching rounds.
5) Ability to work as a multidisciplinary team.
6) Involve in operating room.
7) Involve in trauma clinic.
Research Opportunities
Research is possible either basic or clinical. We have a well design
trauma registry which make clinical research more interesting. There is
a possibility for the Fellow to present a paper at the Trauma
Association of Canada meeting.
Teaching Responsibilities
The VGH is a teaching center of excellence. There is some residents and
medical students in rotation every month. The Fellow have the
opportunity to get the qualification for the Monitor course of the ATLS.
Courses are run in FAST and in Trauma Systems.
