Description
Emergency Medicine Elective: Accident & Emergency Department
This is a busy inner city emergency department, seeing 65,000 patients per year. The unit receives trauma on a regular basis and is a training centre for ATLS. The Royal Free Hospital is a neurotrauma centre, and receives head injury patients via helicopter from north central London, serving a population of 2 to 3 million. The emergency department is headed by four consultants, and has six registrars and twelve senior house officers.
Learning Opportunities
Most of the teaching will be practical although tutorials can be arranged if two or more students are attached. Students will also be welcome at senior house officer training sessions and as observers at local ATLS courses.
