Penetrating splinter injury to the abdomen

This is the case of a 34 year old male who was working on a wooden dock when he slipped and fell causing a splinter to penetrate his right upper quadrant. The wound was locally explored revealing penetration of the abdominal fascia. Diagnostic laparascopy was performed showing clear penetration of the peritoneal cavity. On examination of the liver, there was a small area noted in the right lobe where the splinter had penetrated. There was no evidence of hemorrhage noted at the time of surgery. The patient was discharged home the following day.
