This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_008F_01D636CC.15108200 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Dear List Members: Thank you for your quick feedback as usual. Let me explain myself = better: A friend of mine is working on a study to compare the level of stress = (anxiety) in perfoming ATLS and ACLS courses compared to real life ER = outcome performances. Preliminary results showed that the stress level is higher in ATLS = courses. She tried to search the literature but no results were found = till now. The main reason for the study (I bet you wonder): To identify negative = risk factors during emergency courses; To find out how can one minimize = the psychological stimulum impinged upon an individual so he/she can = improve his/her learning.=20 Hypothetical case: ATLS course, Monday afternoon. It's test time! The = best student approoved now is not going to be the best ATLS instructor. = The teacher wonders why...=20 And the real best student and outstanding ATLS instructor candidate was = too nervous and dazzled by the presence of Dr. Mattox = anti-wimp-candidates-instructor! He couldn't do make it. The student has failed the course not because he = wasn't good but only because he was stressed out! Got it? I wish it was april 1st but it happens all the time. I know my friend's = study is not going to change the world but it's interesting for those = nurses who like studing people's level of anxiety and find out how can = one fight it back.=20 Maybe I'm not using the right word but here goes what's in STEADMAN'S = DICTIONARY (26th ed.): STRESS - Reactions of the body to forces of a deleterious nature, = infections, and various abnormal states that tend to disturb its = normal physiologic equilibrium (homeostasis). The force or pressure = applied or exerted between portions of a body or bodies , generally = expressed in pounds per square inch. In Rheology , the force in a = material transmitted per unit area to adjacent layers. In psychology, a = physical or psychological stimulus such as very high heat, public = criticism, or another noxious agent or experience which, when impinging = upon an individual , produces psychological strain or disequilibrium. Besides, I bet Dr. Mattox if you're knew what nurse we're talking about = you'd know she's the PABULUM OF=20 PRODUCTIVITY herself ehehehe.=20 Cheers C Alster, MD ----- Original Message -----=20 From: <KMATTOX@aol.com> To: <trauma-list@trauma.org> Sent: Friday, May 31, 2002 12:57 AM Subject: Re: STRESS & ATLS or ACLS research > I have no idea what you are talking about.
