Trauma

We are, in my opinion, extremely too stringent with visiting hours. The unit is a locked unit allowing for visitors from 11 am to 3 pm and 4 pm to 6 pm. Families have expressed concerns that they feel isolated from the patient and care plan. The Joint Commission has recommended for a few years that hospitals, including ICU, should be reducing limitations placed on family members who wish to visit. It is my understanding that by doing this we are including them as part of the care team. I would like to see our unit move a bit closer to this goal and loosen up a bit on the policy.

I'm curious what you mean by being stuck in the dark ages. Do you believe there are oversights in the current policy or that it's too heavy handed?

Sent from my phone. Please excuse any typhus.
