Resident Coverage

Teaching Hospital Colleagues,
With the continual shifting role of residents, and the ever decreasing availability of residents for trauma and acute care coverage,

1. How are you filling this void? Hiring more trauma/acute care surgeons? Hiring more acute care practitioners (PA, APRN) Over-working current providers (attg staff taking more call)?

2. If you are hiring MD's, who covers their salary (the hospital or medical school)?

3. If you are hiring ACP's, who covers their salary (the hospital or medical school)?

4. If you aren't hiring additional staff, what are you doing to compensate the current providers to keep them from burning out?

Any insight would be appreciated! You are welcome to contact me directly.
Thank you, and Happy New Year!
Janet
