Errington, I will have to disagree with this one too. If you look at all the literature, the missed injury rate from surgery or from radiologic exam or from physical exam is exactly the same. I have an old study published on this (the first large one) which shows that simple physical exam is all that is needed for penetrating neck injuries. John After exploration, I have 99.9% assurance that I have found every injury in that patient's neck. no serial exams. No multiple different radiologic studies. My 2 cents. Errington C.
