News articles are often not totally correct nor totally incorrect.
Furthermore newspaper articles are intended to catch your eye and to sell
newspapers.

Having said that, I might be able to repeat the principle of this story in
some US cities, German cities, Italy cities, and many others. It is
SOCIETY via its funding and politicians that place priorities on just what
money gets spent for.

Doctors, particularly surgeons can only operate on one patient at a time,
and only put one patient in one bed at one time. AND the bed needs some
time to be cleaned. It is society that determines how many beds exist.

As I read the ACA and some state plans, I am deeply concerned that the
current focus on medical cost containment is so focused on wellness and
prevention that so very little is being spent on acute care in the very near
future, that the same type of real headlines might be seen in many US cities.

EC physician work hours/week are capped
Hospitalist are capped as to number of patients they can have in their
panel

Internal medicine residents are capped at how many patients they can admit
per shift

ICU nurses are capped as to the maximum number of patients they can care
for at any time.

Residents are capped as to work hours.

And on and on.................................

The result-not enough money or people to take care of the sick people.

What to do????
