Crics

Interesting. I have actually done 3 crics in-house in the last 8 months! Our medics have done an equal number in 18 months. I guess the northeast has really bad disease, or clinicians with either bad technique, bad judgment or both.....

Things that make you go Hmmmmmmm................

I have to weigh in on the UK / Aust / Kiwi side of this debate. I have
inserted many thousands of ETTs (including prehospital), done over 500
tracheostomies and ZERO emergency cricothyrotomies. Admittedly I don't
see South African style facial trauma but that really is the main
indication. In any other setting more than the very rare surgical
airway should prompt immediate review of the individual's airway
skills. I of course still teach cricothyrotomy and have good surgical
airway kit immediately available.
