It would seem Marty, you failed the entrance exams for the Fire Service.

Come on everyone, we all know that firefighters are all heros and can do no wrong. Where would they fit the time in for medical training and recertification with all the babies they are carrying out of burning buildings, cooking and sleeping? I say, we just add the letters "M.D." at the end of their professional designations as well. Then they won't need physician oversight. Let's not overwork the heros too much.

Last week a bill was introduced into the Louisiana Legislature to exempt all fire services from medical oversight, discipline for poor care, fees and fines for refusal to pay state license fees. All control is to be placed in the hands of the local fire chief. No state control ...No physician control

How to make a traditionally bad situation

Much, much worse ! ! !

It makes me want to puke !

How can people be so stupid

It is very clear
The single most important factor in a quality EMS system is

Medical control
Intelligent, effective and enpowered Medical Control

Most EMS failures, historicaly, has been weak Medical Control and emasculated QA/QC mecanismes

Fire Departments, traditionally and overwhelmingly have had a culture of weak Medical Control
The reasons are many
And not exclusive to the FireEMS systems (Unions, Pre-Existing culture and pre-occupations crowding out purely Medical interests, conservative management, etc)

I am a Medic
I would be much happier with a low stress recert, CME and oversight
Handled by MY PEOPLE ! ! !

But what has been made very clear by newer professions :
NPs, PAs, Medics, Commercial Pilots

Is that supervisions and control is best handled in symbiosis with an exterior and more objective (that has, ultimately; executives powers)

A sad day in EMS

And a step back in improving ALL our professions (It's een a long time since Medical orders(unions) have been overseeing Not so well) their own affairs
