I personally use an IVF filters on all of my spinal cord patients, and in spite of the lack of evidence to support my belief, I think that the severe TBI's that most likely will not recover functionally but that we keep going should also have an IVF filter, either retrievable or permanent. For patients with contraindications (absolute or relative) to DVT prophylaxis I am quick to filter. Just my 2 cents...
