DVT Prophylaxis in head injury

 We can't get consensus from our neurosurgeons, but we do place IVC filters in those high-risk patients with head bleeds.? 

Just a quick thought, IVC filters do nothing for DVTs, right?

Maybe, for the very rare high risk patient, but otherwise a complex and expensive solution to a non problem for day to day use. Heparin is antithrombotic not thrombolytic, so if there Is good haemostasis even 48 hr is prob too long to wait but works for us.?
