The UK system is that all people get the same hourly rate. I work a 1 in 8 rota. That means I am on call one night/weekend in 8. On call from home, with trainees in the hospital. I get paid 3% of my base salary for the inconvenience of being on an on call rota, and also for the amount of work I do - this currently works out at 6 hours per week, so I get paid an extra 6/40 of my base salary for this. Exactly the same formulae for all specialties - the inconvenience % changes with the on call frequency, from 1% to 8%.
