Trauma outcomes USA

Thank you for this I was aware that this was a big problem I have seen UK data for blunt trauma but not for penetrating.  Is there US data for these categories in the ICU?

I cannot answer your question directly but there will be a major contributing factor that will be very hard to address. There will be a significant difference in outcome as the proportion of penetrating vs blunt trauma changes. I am not sure how one would address this confounding variable accurately. Unless or course they are separated and one looks at the outcome of patients with penetrating patients alone and blunt patients alone.

I would be grateful for some assistance; does anybody have data comparing outcomes from  US trauma ICU's versus non-trauma ICU's (apart from the paper by Duane et al in Journal of Emergencies Trauma and Shock)? I suspect that dedicated trauma ICU's are likely to have better outcomes but I have found it difficult to obtain supportive data.
Also what is the crude mortality rate for all ICU trauma admissions in the US? In NSW Australia it is 11% and I wondered how his compared with the US appreciating of course the likely differences in case mix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
