The Pakistan Army is currently engaged in a major offensive against the taleban in Swat and North Waziristan. Many of my colleagues are deployed at the frontlines with mobile surgical teams. This is a bitter fight against a fanatical enemy and we're beginning to see increasing casualties as the offensive proceeds. Over 2 million Internally Displaced People (IDPs) have fled the fighting and are struggling in camps. The Army Medical Corps is also helping civilian authorities provide healthcare to these refugees. We are stretched very thin here in Pakistan and need all the help we can get. The UN, World Food Programme and the ICRC have launched appeals for the IDPs. I too ask for your help any which way you can and I thank you for reading this far. US cellular users can make five-dollar donations by texting ‘Swat’ to the number 20222 ( http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/news/world/09-pakistan-appeals-to-us-public-for-idp-aid-szh--11 ). Alternatively you can donate to your favourite charity involved in Pakistan. Spread the word if you see fit. Regards Sohail Muzammil, FRCS Combined Military Hospital Pano Aqil, Pakistan
