I have used a designated lead in many of the facilities I am working with. This person is the right hand of the Trauma Program Manager. The job description really depends on the makeup of your entire department. It also depends on whether it is an information management background or a nursing background. If you have nurses collecting all the performance improvement information for the registry then your can focus on data abstraction, entry and coding by information management staff. Many of us know it takes around 6 months to train a good registrar [see Susan Auerbach, Journal Trauma Nursing 1999, [there are 2 articles] for orientation process) so their needs to be someone who is knowledgeable in trauma care, trauma systems who is data/computer savvy, who go ensure inter rater reliability of your registry staff, set ups systems to ensure validity of the data according to a data dictionary, can troubleshoot faults in the registry system, can orient all new staff, and can provide reliable reports to the trauma leadership. I have a few job descriptions I can share on Monday when I get back to the office (sorry its 7pm in Germany). Danke! Kathie Kathleen D. Please explain more. We hire an outside contractor for the management of our trauma registry. They do it concurrently and do a fantastic job.
