GLOSSARY (was RE: "Handovers are dangerous" so I never go home or goon leave...)

First and most important lesson for newbies: change the subject line as
necessary to properly reflect your content.

VOMIT: Victim of Modern Imaging Technology. This speaks mostly to the
tendency to use advanced imaging because it's there. To a lesser
degree, it has also been used to describe the consequences of
hypersensitive technologies, uncovering ditzel injuries of little or no
consequence which nonetheless distract other patient care priorities.

BARF: Brainless Application of Radiologic Findings. Wherein, for
example, ditzel injuries run the show; or conversely, a lateral neck is
used to clear the spine.

BURP: Boatloads of Un-Reliable Pictures. This is mostly a phenomenon of
rural trauma systems, where referring facilities feel compelled to x-ray
every extremity fracture and CT for injuries they haven't the slightest
ability to treat. The images lend almost no clinical advantages along
the treatment path; and worse, must often be repeated owing to the
inexperience of the first hospital's technologist or inadequacy of their
equipment.

Welcome to the list.

Hello:

I am going to publicly flaunt my ignorance as a new listmember (and an
only
occasional trauma anesthesia provider) and beg the indulgence of someone
to
explain to me the meaning of the acronym VOMIT.

Thanks very much in advance

Jim Carroll, CRNA
