For infectious diseases to which we hAve background and regular exposure, Dr. McSwain's argument may have slight scientific support in non-immunosuppressed patients.  However, for NEW pathogens and in immunoSuppressed persons, handwashing is beneficial as are other universal precautions.

I find adding regular picking of the nose helps.
