Actually early coagulopathy likely results in an increased likelihood of DVT. Early coagulopathy was identified by Peggy Knudson in the early nineties as the strongest association with late DVT. We have shown that systemic activation of protein C is in part responsible for early coagulopathy - early exhaustion of protein C may lead to a late hypercoagulable state. This association is yet to be fully investigated.
