> If the objective is to ....., etc., it will NEVER happen in the USA.

--> Well, I am certainly not as experienced in the medical world as are many on this list, nor am I good on economics. I AM good with maths, but I think that, if you speak of "objective" then it has nothing to do with maths, nor the other two.

The "objective" is to be seen to be succeeding as president/politician. In a capitalist country, I guess you could say that succes is measured by financial worth most of the time (certainly is for most things), but I think that, when you become the president of the USA, you probably are aiming for something even above money!

Now, one cannot get re-elected or prove success with the following concept: "I decided to leave the system capitalist, as it has always been - and I have succeeded, so vote for me or my party next time". No one gets credit in politics for succeeding by doing nothing. This might work well for doctors, but it's a failure for politicians!

A politician begins with the following objective: "I will decide to change something; I will decide what I will change it to; I will then promise to do that; I will then get elected on that promise; I will then make that change; I will then point how successfully I made this change when it comes to being re-elected. If I fail, then I have lost nothing compared to if I had not tried anything. But, if I succeed, then I'm GREAT! My party, which was elected by a majority to do this and has succeeded will likely remain electable. History will judge whether I have succeeded in something which was worthwhile, like uniting the North & South in the USA, or not worthwhile - examples here I will leave to y'all. But by the time history makes the judgement I'll be an ex-president who's either very wealthy or dead (or both)...

Either Obama gets the system changed, or someone else will eventually get elected and try again. Until a couple of months ago, I was sure he'd do it. Judging by my usual index of the likelihood of success of any Democrat - directly proportional to how much FOX NEWS objects to and campaigns against what he's trying to do - it's a certainty. But there's a lot going on, so he might be diverted. Still, he has 7.5 years left to try...

The point is that there are not enough physicians on this list or anywhere else with enough advertising power to convince the public AGAINST the media, so it will either happen or won't regardless of what physicians think/want. So I think physicians/nurses/carers may well do better for themselves and their patients by MOLDING what that success might be SHOULD it happen, just in case it does, rather than spending effort/time being seen to be against it...

Just my opinion.

Disclaimers:
1. I stand to gain financially through investments should this whole thing fail to happen and the US healthcare system remains guided by the profits and related decisions of the corporations I am invested in.
2. I still wish for the USA success in following other nations and ADDING to its capitalist system also a DECENT "safety-net" system of healthcare.
