Before Dr. McSwain's prodigious memory kicks in, I'll point out that during
 that time, the Louisiana State Employee's Group Medical Insurance was
pretty  much *only* accepted at the Charity and University Hospitals. In
addition, few  of the local OB docs or hospitals would accept medicaid for
delivery.  Essentially, we had a major paying captive audience.

Starting with another hospital I was associated with in 1993-94 time frame,
 most of the hospitals in the state started to accept that insurance, which
 quickly diluted the income from State Group. About the same time, Medicaid
 decided to increase the payments for delivery (bundled with prenatal
care), and  more private OB docs and hospitals started doing those deliveries
again.
