You know far more about that history than I do. You keep us honest in these discussions. Norman Norman McSwain MD Trauma Director, Charity Hospital Professor of Surgery, Tulane University New Orleans LA 504 988 5111 norman.mcswain at tulane.edu <mailto:norman.mcswain at tulane.edu> ________________________________ From: trauma-list-bounces at trauma.org on behalf of Krin135 at aol.com Sent: Sat 7/25/2009 9:58 AM To: trauma-list at trauma.org Subject: Re: BRAVO to the ACS Before Dr. McSwain's prodigious memory kicks in, I'll point out that during that time, the Louisiana State Employee's Group Medical Insurance was pretty much *only* accepted at the Charity and University Hospitals. In addition, few of the local OB docs or hospitals would accept medicaid for delivery. Essentially, we had a major paying captive audience. Starting with another hospital I was associated with in 1993-94 time frame, most of the hospitals in the state started to accept that insurance, which quickly diluted the income from State Group. About the same time, Medicaid decided to increase the payments for delivery (bundled with prenatal care), and more private OB docs and hospitals started doing those deliveries again. ck Charles S. Now Big Charity in New Orleans (which does operate in the black) supports the rest of the Charity hospitals in the southern part of the state. I am not familiar with the finances of those in the north Norman **************An Excellent Credit Score is 750. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps!
