Today in History

I was 20 and home in Miami from college for the summer trying to figure if I wanted to be a physician-astronaut or an oceanographer-next-Costeau. I was intent in exploring either outer or inner space. My parents, brother and I watched a grainy B&W TV with flickering lines. (My dad wouldn't cave in for a color TV until there were enough shows to justify the expense.) We were taking pictures of the TV screen with a kodak camera. Still have a few of the shots.

I was in love with the idea of space travel. If you had offered me a shot at going to the moon or Mars and couldn't guarentee getting me back I still would have taken it. I transitioned that interest to SCUBA and undersea pursuits when I realized there was no market for a red-green color blind astronaut. For my 40th birthday my wife got me a trip to space camp in Huntsville, Alabama.
