beta blockers in TBI

There was a bunch of stuff at EAST last year (Jan '08) some of which
showed decreased mortality in head injured patients with Heart Rate
Uncoupling — was pretty cool but you needed special monitors that
could measure R-R variability.

This is definitely not my field but I thought I remembered our rehab
doc feeling that Beta blockers improved cognitive outcome by
mechanisms that were unclear. This was some time ago. A quick look at

PubMed seems to show that there are studies which show improved
survival in patients exposed to beta blockers, again without a clear
mechanism and there seems to be a consensus for using them to treat
agitation and aggression post TBI.
