After independence from British rule in 1947,
India had many Muslim Presidents and Vice presidents.
Sonia Gandhi an Italian by birth is president of largest political party i.e. Congress and is one of the most powerful persons in the country.
Many chief ministers and supreme court judges have been and are christians and muslims.
Recently in most turbulent state of the countryi.e. J.and K. we witnessed free and fair elections with more than 60 percent voter turn out.
Media is very powerful and vocal ,print as well as visual.
Right to Information act allows any citizen to seek any information from Govt. offices. 
Leading actors of Bollywood are muslims,and few have Hindu wives.
It is indeed the largest democracy of the world.
Having said that system does have flaws but they are few and minor.
