These are LOCAL or STATE rules, not national ones. In general, one should not stop at a non-trauma center for a major trauma patient. Level I, Level II, and Level III have the same requirement for quality outcomes, except in the area of head trauma and need for cardiopulmonary bypass. The other differences are in the area of education, research and outcome. For penetrating and blunt injury to the chest, abdomen, pelvis, neck and extremity, including fractures, etc. a Level III should be able to do everything that a Level I could do. k In a message dated 8/4/2009 3:06:32 P.M. I remember reading somewhere the delivery priorities that EMS adherers to when a trauma System has all three levels of care I, II & III. It went something like they could not pass a Level I to get to a level II and so on. Does anyone know where I can find this ?
