None that I can cite but definitely sufficient direct observation to form an opinion. Over the years, many spent working in an ED, I have seen plenty of errors in judgment by not only staff, but security personnel, an unfortunate few of which ("sentinel events) resulted in lawsuits and the premature end of careers. 
I concede it may be a necessary evil in some of the larger metropolitan areas but cannot see the need in an average Emergency Department.
