Hi, I'm Lara, a physician in training in anaesthesiology and intensive care from Trieste.
Trieste is quite 700 km far away from L'Aquila.
Nevertheless some people from Trieste, physicians and volounteers are already in Abruzzo to give some help.
The earthquake, that occured at 3.30 AM (Italy) today, was a 5.8 magnitudo Richter's Scale, the epicenter was L'Aquila in Abruzzo region.
TV news are reporting about 150 deads (many of them were children) and 1500 injured people. Civil Protection, Environmental Emergencies and volounteers are still digging in rubbles and debrises. Fortunately in a student hostel there have been found 6 young people alive.
More than hundred thousands people have lost their home. An entire city will sleep in the open air tonight.
I'll copy a link where you can find some photos of the disaster.

It's quite sad that Giampaolo Giuliani, a research engineer of Gran Sasso laboratories, predicted 3 days ago that something was going to happened.
Actually he said "There will be a disastrous earthquake shortly" basing his convinction on scientific bases (there have been a lot of little earth tremblings lastly) quantifying the radon emission from earth.
He was accused of causing false alarms.
Effectively no one can predict such a disaster, many times earth tremblings are not followed by earthquakes... but... who knows...
Without any speculation about predictions, our hearts go to Abruzzo people, who are living it.

Lovely Yours,
yours Lara P.
