Interesting comment from the family of the survivor of the Trooper 2 crash: http://www.abc2news.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=1ee85d9d-9b78-4df6-8b8c-a5b2777878be As workers at the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center hoisted a black bunting in tribute to the medavac team, the family of an 18-year old girl who survived a car crash and the subsequent chopper crash spoke of their sacrifice. "This is in homage to the pilots and to the rescue crew," said the victim's father, Scott Wells, "That's what it means to me. We're just so grateful to those people who are now our heroes... who gave their lives for our daughter." Her parents say Jordan Wells still can't speak and can only communicate with them by squeezing their hands. She suffered multiple broken bones and internal injuries. Wells and her close friend, 17-year old Ashley Younger, had just left a fair in Charles County when their car was involved in an accident in Waldorf. *"They both was alive. One of them said their chest hurt and the other one was like, 'I'm fine,' so they got in a helicopter," said D'Angelo Dyer of Waldorf.* Younger died when the chopper went down, and a crisis team made up of counselors and psychologists awaited students at Westlake High School in Waldorf as they returned to school upon hearing news of the two recent graduates' fate. "Our thoughts and prayers to out to all of the families affected by the accident," said Principal Chrystal Benson, "Jordan is a very vivacious and determined young lady, and we truly hope that spirit is what gets her through this." Even with some of the best care in the world, Jordan's parents realize she has a long way to go. "Every time we talk to the doctors, it's better news. We're happy, but she's a very hurt girl," said Scott Wells, "She went through a tremendous ordeal, as most of you know, she was trapped out there in the woods for an extended period of time... covered in jet fuel and very, very hurt." So much for "critical trauma". -- Stephen L.
