[CCM-L] Maryland State Police Helicopter Down- 3 dead, one critical

The bad thing is that Bob is correct, yet despite that fact that this has been vocalized on this page many times, I have hared it from the podium of major meetings for at least 10 years; Ken Mattox (and others) have been very outspoken about it, no one listens. Unless and until the medical directors of these services band together in opposition, the process will continue and folks will continue to die.

"When will something be done?"

1. When Medicare and third party payers stop rewarding the inappropriate
(read: inexcusable) use of medical helicopters.

2. When strict launch criteria is established and enforced by their medical
directors without fear of retaliation.

3. When hospital managers stop using them as part of a market-based captive
system of distribution, and

4. When flight crews finally comprehend that it's not worth dying for.

Just my two cents.
