Jeff,

I agree with you. What a horrible tragedy! When will something be done?

This is indeed terribly tragic. And while our hearts go out to the families of the victims, and we salute the courage of the team members that responded to the call, we have to ask why we have a system that asked them to fly in bad weather. For a distance of, what, only 25 miles? Moreover, I am amazed to learn from the news report that the Maryland SP has a fleet of 12 helicopters. Why should a state of that size require such support? Something is not right with the aeromedical transport concept as applied in the US.

> The crew and one of the patients of a Maryland State Police helicopter have died after the helicopter went down. The other patient has survived but is described as being in critical condition. I believe this was the crew based out of Andrews AFB where I used to be stationed and I flew on that helicopter and possibly with that crew on several occasions while transferring patients. This loss is a tragedy for everyone who knew the crew members and the patients. However, I do believe this was to be expected given the egregiously overzealous use of helicopters in that state, even given the outstanding safety record of the MSP flight program (arguably one of the best in the country).
