There was an argument between ICU physician and neurosurgeon about the use of dextrose 5% in fluid management of the head injured patients. The main point was the dextrose will be metabolized and produce CO2 which might induce hypercapnia, the effect which nobody need it in the head injury. This is about the maintenance fluid; of course nobody is going to start dextrose for initial resuscitation. Any idea about it? _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
