Talking Disaster - was Re: Disaster in LA Area

Dear Listers

On Friday 14 November around 1400 a mini tornado hit the upper highway
area west of Durban. Trees were snapped off - including some 70 year old
pines and similar large trees. 8 people died including 4 children, whose
houses in the Molweni informal settlement collapsed on them while changing
clothes after arriving home from school. 70 other injuries were recorded.
All services worked well to clear the injured from the scene within three
hours.

1000 people are homeless. In other more formal communities houses were
damaged and a school is now roofless - luckily it was empty at the time
the storm hit.

Our hearts go out to all the affected people. The more wealthy communities
were arriving with blankets and food when the EMS left the scene. Many
were emptying their garages to help house the destitute.

While not on the scale of the LA fires, it still hurts in an already
financially impaired part of the world
