Mike, I agree with you for the patient that does not need to go to the OR, but I have to admit that if I know that a patient is going to need an operation and will need resuscitation to get there, I am going to the OR for both. Simplistic, perhaps, but it is certainly more efficient where I am with respect to the availability of hands and supplies. Like many centers, we have the OR crew respond to the resusciation room and perform thoracotomy, rarely laparotomy with packing, and even more rarely, stat C-section. What are your thoughts on OR resus vs. trauma resusciatiton room for unstable patients? If you use OR resus, what are your criteria and your observations on practicality and efficiency?
