John Pryor

It is always sad to receive the news of the death of a colleague, especially
when on duty. John Pryor was apparently an exceptional man as well as a
dedicated surgeon. My condolences to his family and friends.
Let us not forget all our Iraqi colleagues as well, who have faced being
killed, kidnapped for ransom and tortured over the last several years. Over
60% of Iraqi medical specialists have left the country due to security
concerns. Several, whom I met during war surgery seminars there, are no
longer of this world as well.

I have had to bury far too many colleagues over the years. Man's inhumanity
to man knows no bounds apparently. The sacrifice of our colleagues is a
greater incentive to us to continue our work in favour of those in need.
