ranjith the risk depends upon the type of IV contrast given and the risk factors present. The low osmolar contrasts are quite safe and the iso-osmolar ones even more so. Risk of renal insufficiency is much less than reported. In trauma patients contrast induced nephropathy is very unusual and mostly transient. I thnk that is due to the young age of most trauma victims and the hydration they get. Allergic reactions do occur as to any drug but life threatening anaphylactic reactions are rare,? tragic and unpredictable. An allergy to shellfish IS NOT a predictor of risk of allergic reaction. sal -----Original Message----- From: Ranjith Ellawala <ranjithellawala at yahoo.com> To: Trauma & Critical Care mailing list <trauma-list at trauma.org> Sent: Sun, 3 Aug 2008 1:29 pm Subject: Abdominal CT for Trauma Dear all , Have you confronted with side effects of IV contrast given in CT for patints who are ventillated but haemodynamically stable.?
