Hey Sa'ad, I've used this technique for penetrating trauma (stabs; no gunshots I = can recall) in the upper arm (deltoid), peri-clavicular region, neck and = groin, always for unrelenting arterial bleeding where more regular methods = would not stem the outgoing tide. It has saved my hide metaphorically and the patient's literally quite a few times. I always feel odd sending a = patient up to a higher level of care with a Foley protruding, but in the more resource-restrained spots it's sometimes the best one can do. On one memorable occasion with a stab that partially transacted the = femoral artery right in the patient's groin I arrived on call as the patient was being intubated after collapsing due to acute blood loss. I swept in, replaced the helpful hands with a Foley, blew up the balloon and stopped = the blood flow, to great accolade. The balloon was trying to escape the = wound, so I put in a purse-string type suture to close the skin and prevent it = from dislodging in transit...whereby my last pass of the needle popped the balloon and showered me with blood. Blood 1 Pride 0. Second Foley = placed with less flair. R.
