Therapeutic hypothermia has become standard of care at many institutions
for out of hospital cardiac arrest. I haven't really heard anything
about spinal cord injuries though.

Im sure that most of us on the list have seen the footage of the NFL
player that suffered a spinal cord injury last sunday. I was watching
ESPN news last nite and they had a (i believe) a physician that
described hypothermic therepy to reduce the amount of swelling on spinal
cord. Is this becoming a more accpeted therepy for spinal cord injuries?
is there a time frame in which the maxium benefits can be achieved? If
this therepy is being used what are the protocols? i believe that Mass
General Hospital is using this therepy for post cardiac arrest patients.
