ECG in penetrating cardiac injury

Sa'ad

In my experience, not useful - we have stopped doing ECG's on suspected cardiac penetrating trauma, but we do ultrasounds. We also don't do pericardiocentesis for the reason of significant false negatives in trauma.

Subject: ECG in penetrating cardiac injury

Hi all

How sensitive and specific is the ECG in picking up penetrating cardiac
injury for stabs to the precordium

We have all heard of J waves and ST segement changes but does anyone have
any stats or know what the evidence says

Regards
Sa'ad
