I think that the coagulopathy certainly could have developed as the poor guy continued to bleed, became acidotic and eventually even hypothermic as the initial fluids given in the rig would probably not have been warmed. Who knows? All I can say for certain is that here is a kid that was finally pulling his life together and walking away from the very same type of person who ended up taking his life. What a damn waste - in this case, and ever other case of a kid dying from violence or drugs or alcohol and speed - or any other preventable cause! Its interesting to discuss the matter, but the bottom line was, we were not there. It could have been too much fluid pre hospital, or somewhere else. Or, it may have been something that was totally unavoidable. Interesting to see what other details emerge from this case. Anyone else have any suggestions as to what might have happened?
