Ken, You are so right about the inception of trauma systems and centers here in the US. Sadly, however, there are still those who have no clue about the reasons for, and value of a trauma center designation within a trauma system. There are some on my own medical staff (including the fellow who was serving as the president of the medical staff!!) who, when the dollars got tight, wanted to know if we "really needed to be a trauma center". So, as you said, and as Mike Sise said earlier, it will take a whole lot of dedication, even more dogged determination, and a lot of slogging through the mud by those who "truly believe" to get it done. The folks in the UK can depend on us for whatever assistance they might need, for sure; but we here cannot think that our battle is over. For some of our colleagues, the 60's are a thing of the present.....which is really funny, 'cause I always thought that if you remembered the 60's, you weren't really there! Best to all, Ron >>> <KMATTOX at aol.com> 11/26/2007 1:02 PM >>> I read the report. I have read the many responses. I am encouraged. MUCH MORE passion and support exists among just the little bit that I have read here on trauma-org, than existed in the United States in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when trauma system discussions began here. I well remember the many frustrations, even among our own surgical leaders regarding just how we were to get this done. With the level of comment, enthusiasm, insight and existing literature, I would be willing to wager that a UK trauma system in just a few years will be the best in the world. We will be talking about the post ATLS era and the standards of trauma practice established by the visionaries in the UK. Keep up the insight and vision k **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products.
